Build a video integration

Work through camera discovery, media sessions, events and video platform APIs.

Navigation or project guidance; not a claim of product, standards or environment validation.

Verification and testing

1. Separate control from media#

Read media fundamentals and RTSP, RTP, RTCP and SDP. Sketch the session setup separately from the media packets and decoder.

Next useful check: can you name the part that describes the stream and the part that carries it?

2. Check the service contract#

Read ONVIF. Record the exact product, firmware, registered profile and advertised services. Do not substitute the vendor's family name for a product capability record.

Use discovery and multicast to understand why discovering an endpoint does not establish trust.

3. Follow the platform boundary#

Read VMS, NVR and VSaaS, then choose the relevant vendor API. Decide whether you should talk to the device or to the recording platform.

4. Check the result that matters#

Use video health, recording and retention and export integrity.

Limit: a playable live stream does not prove that recording, retention or export works.

Practise without a camera#

Use the offline ONVIF flow exercise and synthetic media trace exercise. They focus on interpretation, not active discovery or device control.
